Rahul was observing all her activities very curiously and asked his mother why she had put the salted vegetables in the sun. Among the following what might be the most appropriate answer for his question? *
1.So that the pickle may get extra flavour
2.So that the cut vegetables may absorb the vitamin d as a nutrient from the sun rays.
3.So that the vegetables may lose all the water by diffusion and evaporation and become dry.

Answer:

1. When producing pickles, the chopped veggies are placed in the sun to totally evaporate any water and dry them off, preventing any microbial development brought on by moisture.

2.The phenomenon is called endosmosis, which occurs when the concentration of water/solvent is more in the surrounding.

3. The raisins get swollen after overnight soaking, and the phenomenon is called endosmosis.

4.Because soaked raisins aid in a greater quantity of calcium absorption,  Rahul’s mother is adamant that her daughter consume them. This enhances bone health and boosts bone density.

Explanation:

Step : 1 The purpose of putting the chopped vegetables in sunlight while making pickles is to evaporate the water completely and make it dry so that any microbial growth doesn't occur due to the presence of moisture. The veggies were chopped into little bits and Rahul's mother placed them in the sun (to get sunlight) for a few hours so they would lose water through diffusion and evaporation and dry out. She added regular salt to the sliced veggies to cause exosmosis, which causes the cells of the vegetables to lose more water. The water was heated to cause it to evaporate.

Step : 2   This is done to prevent the growth of microorganisms on the veggies, such as bacteria and fungus. Kidney beans are seeds, and each of their cells has a semipermeable plasma membrane and a porous cell wall. After soaking kidney beans for an entire night, water diffuses through them through the process of endosmosis, causing them to swell and become more appetising when cooked.

Step : 3 When raisins are submerged in water for a few hours, a process known as endosmosis occurs. Raisins expand after being soaked in water. Osmosis is responsible for all of this. The raisins swell as a result of the water molecules passing through their cell membrane. A better option to eating the raisins uncooked is to soak them and consume them every day. The water dissolves the vitamins and minerals found on the raisin's outer skin. As a result, the body will be able to absorb more nutrients.
