Given:

Rahul sold a watch to Sohan at a gain of 10%, Sohan sold it to Mohan at a loss of 10%. Mohan paid 990 rupees to Sohan.

To Find:

The price paid by Rahul is?

Solution:

1. Let the initial cost of the watch be x. ( Initial cost implies the cost at which Rahul has bought the watch).

2. Rahul has sold the watch to Sohan at a gain of 10%,

=> Price at which Rahul has sold it to Sohan = x + (10/100) * x,

=> Price at which Rahul has sold it to Sohan = 11x/10.

3. Sohan sold the watch to Mohan at a loss of 10%,

=> Price at which Sohan has sold it to Mohan = 11x/10 - (10/100) 11x/10,

=> Price at which Sohan has sold it to Mohan = 99x/100.

4. Mohan has paid 990 rupees to Mohan,

=> 99x/100 = 990,

=> x = 1000.

5. x = 1000 implies the original price of the watch. ( Price at which Rahul has bought the watch).

Therefore, Rahul has bought the watch for 1000 INR.
