Rahul was 4 times old as his son 8 years back and he will be 2 times old as his son after 8 years. calculate rahul and his sons age

Let the Rahul present age be x years and his son age be y years.
eight years before
Rahul age = x - 8
His son' s age = y - 8
Therefore, x - 8 = 4 ( y - 8 )
x - 8 = 4y - 32
4y - x = 24..........…......….(i)
Eight years after,
Rahul age = x + 8
His son age = y + 8
Therefore, x + 8 = 2 ( y + 8 )
x + 8 = 2y + 16
x - 2y = 8 ................(ii)
By adding eq. (i) and (ii). We have,
2y = 32
y = 16
Put the value of y = 16 in eq. (ii)
x = 40
Hence the present age of Rahul is 40 years
and , his son presentage is 16 years
