Hi---------==
Railways track use wooden sleepers,
i hope u know that we train pass through any area then it produced lot of vibrations
due this vibrations it must be chances that train dont keep it stability and must be cause of accident ,
so we need materials to decrease this vibrations and train keep on it track,
we use piece of stones ,sleeper ,it may be concrete made or wooden made sleeper
wooden made sleeper are use in past but in present day we are use concrete or plastic made sleeper
wooden made sleeper are cheaper as compare to concrete made in past but in present it reverse,
wooden sleepers are also reduce more vibrations than concrete made due to gaps between wooden threads.
wooden sleeper are reduce force/area of train on the surface.
hope it help u

Answer:
Railway tracks are laid on large sized wooden sleepers so that the thrust due to the weight of train is spread over large area . This reduces the pressure on the ground which would prevent the yielding of the ground.
