Answer:
1. Today, scientists use geodesy, which is the science of measuring Earth's shape, gravity and rotation. Geodesy provides accurate measurements that show Earth is round. With GPS and other satellites, scientists can measure Earth's size and shape to within a centimeter. Pictures from space also show Earth is round like the moon.
2. A prime meridian is the meridian (a line of longitude) in a geographic coordinate system at which longitude is defined to be 0°.
3. Meridians are associated with longitudes. -- Parallels are parallel, and no two parallels intersect. All meridians intersect all other meridians, at two places. -- Every point on a parallel has the same latitude.
4. Geographers use these coordinates to locate the places on Earth, on maps and on globes. The vertical lines are called Lines of Longitudes or Meridians. Lines of latitudes or parallels are the horizontal lines. These lines are popularly known as grid and help us to locate any place on the globe or on a flat map.
5. Greenwich Mean Time is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, reckoned from midnight. At different times in the past, it has been calculated in different ways, including being calculated from noon; as a consequence, it cannot be used to specify a precise time unless a context is given.
6. Indian Standard time is the time zone observed throughout India, with a time offset of UTC+05:30. India does not observe daylight saving time or other seasonal adjustments. In military and aviation time IST is designated E*.
