Rain is falling at an angle of 30° from the
vertical due to the wind with a speed of
40 m/s. A car is travelling horizontally in the
direction opposite to the wind, at a speed of
40 m/s. At what angle from the vertical will it
experience the rain falling from?

The angle made by rain appears to him to be equal to 60∘

  • The figure below clearly indicates the given situation.
  • As we know that the angle made by the rain along the vertical side = 30∘
  • So, the angle made by the rain with the horizontal must be
  • θ=90∘ −30∘ =60∘
  • Since the car is moving in the horizontal direction with the same speed as that of the rain.
  • Therefore, the angle made by the rain appears to him is 60∘.
