Though torrential rain that poured the city today brought relief to residents by bringing down the mercury level, businessmen and employees who had off day today, enjoyed the downpour with tea and snacks.
Meanwhile some low-lying areas and posh localities were flooded with water, giving a tough time to rickshaw pullers and auto operators by throwing their normal life out of gear.
Today’s rain brought miseries to many households located in low-lying areas, as sources claimed that following the heavy rain, which lashed the city for around five to six hours in the morning till afternoon, rainwater entered several houses in Preet Nagar, Aman Nagar, Ram Nagar Colony and the Kusht Ashram
Several roads, including Sodal Road, Pathankot bypass, Rama Mandi Road, Railway Road, Damoria flyover, Basti Bawa Khel, parts of Basti Peerdad and Basti Sheikh, Kapurthala Road, Ladowali Road, Nakodar Chowk and areas near the Cantonment like Deep Nagar and Golden Colony, among others turned into water streams.
Even the Pathankot bypass flyover road near Sarb Multiplex caved in. The road has got various holes that caused much inconvenience to residents.
Commuters going from the bus stand and railway station also faced inconvenience as the approach roads remained muddy and inundated.
A resident of Preet Nagar, said, “We actually need a boat to venture out. Why don’t the authorities take strict action and find out a way to tackle such a situation, knowing well that commuters, especially riding two-wheelers, face a tough time while crossing the roads.”
Around twelve vehicles were also found stuck on the Garha-Jalandhar bus stand road.
Residents slammed MC saying, “Accumulation of water on roads is not a new affair during the rains. Even the sewer lines in most areas are faulty.”
