An example is Western ghats .

The rain shadow area is the area on the leeward slopes of a mountain range; in the shadow of the mountains where precipitation is greatly reduced as compared to windward slope.

For example: Central Maharashtra lies on the leeward side of Balaghat range. So, it gets little rainfall.
