Answer:

Raindrops form from water that has evaporated. When water evaporates it leaves behind whatever might have been dissolved in it. Hardness is caused by dissolved minerals (mainly calcium) in the water. Since rain comes from evaporated water, free from minerals, rain water will be soft.

Rain water is soft but it may change into hard when it flows on earth

Explanation:

  • The rain water is formed by the vaporization of the sea water and when this water vapor is condensed in the atmosphere thereby forming the rainwater. it gets dropped on the surface of the earth.
  • It thus is a distilled water without any minerals in it. The same water once in contact with the soil, dissolves minerals especially the Calcium and magnesium which are the principal hard water forming agents.
  • The water then becomes hard if the contents pf calcium and magnesium are more. Not all rivers contain hard water. This depends on the soil over which the river is flowing or the soil in its catchment from where it draws its water via the tributaries.
