Raindrops falling under gravity do not acquire high velocity

Answer:

when a rain drop fall under gravity through a viscous medium (say air) a viscous drag acts out in a direction opposite to that of motion. at this stage there is no net force to accelerate rain drop .hence the rain drops starts moving with uniform velocity. this velocity is called 'terminal velocity
