Raj bought 3 cans of apple juice and 5 cans of mango juice. What is the total quantity of both the juice if 1 can of apple juice contains 1.542 litre of juice and 1 can of mango juice contains 2.291 litres of juice​

Answer:

Suppose that you have x litres of orange juice and y litres of mango juice. Now, to know if orange juice is more in quantity or mango juice is more in quantity, you should know if x > y or y > x respectively.

Given, x = 5/3 and y =13/8.

If x > y

x - y > 0

x - y = 5/3 - 13/8 = (40 - 39)/24 = 1/24.

Clearly, 1/24 > 0.

Therefore, orange juice is more than mango juice by 1/24 litres.

PS : To solve above fraction, you can take L.C.M. of 3 and 8 which is 24. Then divide denominator by L.C.M. and then multiply by numerator. Thus, we get (40–39) as our numerator of resultant fraction.
