Solution:

Plot the above conditions in a diagram,

As we can see that P Q R form a right angle triangle, we will apply Pythagoras Theorem.

$PR^2=PQ^2+QR^2$

        = $10^2+30^2$

        =$100+900$

        =$1000$

$PR=10\sqrt{10}$

Hence the shortest distance between P and R is $10\sqrt{10}$.
