Answer

  • Option 4
  • 0 m/s

Given

  • Raj travels at a speed of 30 m/s from home to the market and returns with a speed of 25 m/s

To Find

  • Average velocity

Concept Used

Displacement

  • It is defined as shortest distance b/w two points , i.e., final & initial points .

Average velocity

  • It is defined as Total displacement per total time

\sf{\orange{\bigstar \;\; Average\ velocity=\dfrac{Total\ displacement}{Total\ time} }}\\\\\sf{\orange{\bigstar \;\; A_{velocity}=\dfrac{d}{t}}}

Solution

Here Raj travels from home to market with a speed of 30 m/s and returns  from market to home with a speed of 25 m/s .

Here , Initial and final points are same .

So , displacement is zero .

Total displacement , d = 0 m

So , Average velocity is zero . [ ∵ 0/x = 0 ]

More Info :

Let the distance from home to market be " x "

So , Distance from market to home is also " x "

We know that ,

\bf \bigstar \;\; Speed=\dfrac{Distance}{Time}

Case - 1 : From home to market

\rm 30=\dfrac{x}{t_1}\\\\\implies \rm t_1=\dfrac{x}{30}

Case - 2 : From market to home

\rm 25=\dfrac{x}{t_2}\\\\\implies \rm t_2=\dfrac{x}{25}

So ,

\rm Total\ time=t_1+t_2\\\\\implies \rm Total\ time=\dfrac{x}{30}+\dfrac{x}{25}\\\\\implies \rm Total\ time=\dfrac{25x+30x}{750}\\\\\implies \rm Total\ time=\dfrac{55x}{750}\\\\\implies \rm Total\ time=\dfrac{11x}{150}

Now , Apply formula .

\implies \rm A_{velocity}=\dfrac{x-x}{\dfrac{11x}{150}}\\\\\implies \rm A_{velocity}=\dfrac{0}{\dfrac{11x}{150}}\\\\\implies \rm A_{velocity}=0\ m/s
