Step-by-step explanation:

let the speed to cover the first half = x and second it would become 3 + x

total time = 0.5 hr = t + s

{ t = time taken to cover the first half of the distance and s = time taken to cover the second half of the distance }

time = distance/speed

0.5 = 1/x + 1/x+3

if this equation is simplified then we will get x²- x - 6 = 0

then we get the values of x = 3 and - 2

x can't be negative so x = 3 km/hr

speed of the first half = 3km/hr

speed of the second half = x + 3 = 5km/hr
