Let the max marks of the exam be x.
Given:-
Candidate A scores 20% of x (x/5 marks) and is 50 marks less for min pass marks. Hence pass marks is (x/5 + 50).
Candidate B scores 40% of x (2x/5 marks) and is 30 marks more than min pass marks. Hence 2x/5 = (x/5+50)+30.
2x/5 = x/5+80
x/5 = 80
x = 80*5 = 400.
Verify:-
Minimum pass marks is (x/5+50) point-1
400/5 + 50 = 130.
Candidate A scored 20% i.e 80 marks and is short by 50 to pass.
Candidate B scored 40% i.e 160 marks and is 30 marks above pass marks(130).
