Rajabai tower is a famous clock tower located in South Mumbai.
It is modelled on The Big Ben tower in London.
The tower holds a big clock that plays melodic tunes at fixed intervals.
The tower owes its name to Premchand Roychand's
(founder of Bombay Stock Exchange) mother, Rajabai, who was a blind woman.
As her family was a strict follower of Jainism, she had her dinner before evening
and the evening bell assisted her in determining the time without anyone's help.
Premchand was one of the major contributors for the construction of the tower
and hence wanted it to be named after his mother, Rajabai.
