Bahadur shah also released shahu maharaj from captivity with a plan that his release will start an internal war in maratha empire. After his return, shahu maharaj challenged tarabai and shivaji II( as shivaji II was proved to be an incapable ruler and also shahu maharaj was the rightful heir of empire). He successfully defeated shivaji II and ascended the throne.

Answer;-
Rajaram Bhosle I (14 February 1670 – 3 March 1700, in Sinhagad[1]) was the second son of Maratha ruler Shivaji, and younger half-brother of Sambhaji. He took over the Maratha Empire as its third Chhatrapati after his brother's death at the hands of the Aurangzeb in 1689. His eleven-year reign was marked with a constant struggle against the Mughals.
