EXPLANATION.

Rajesh completed 1/3 part of his work in 1 hours.

How much work will be completed in 3(1/2) hours.

Using unitary methods in this question.

In 1 hours Rajesh completed 1/3 part of his work.

Work tht he completed in 3(1/2) hours.

⇒ 3(1/2) x (1/3).

⇒ (7/2) x (1/3).

⇒ (7/6).

∴ 7/6 work will be completed in 3(1/2) hours.

MORE INFORMATION.

Work done = Time taken x Rate of the work.

Rate of work = 1/(Time taken).

Time taken = 1/(Rate of work).

Rajesh can complete  \frac{7}{6} or 1\frac{1}{6} part of the work in 3\frac{1}{2} hours as calculated using the unitary method.

If Rajesh completed \frac{1}{3} of the work in 1 hour, then he can complete \frac{1}{3} of the work in each hour. Therefore, in 3\frac{1}{2} hours, Rajesh can complete:

 3\frac{1}{2}  hours = \frac{7}{2} hours

Now we will use the properties of the unitary method using the unit rate.

If a third of the work is done in one hour then to calculate the amount of work done in 3 and a half hours then by the property of the unitary method we have to multiply the unit rate by the total allotted time.

So, in \frac{7}{2} hours, Rajesh can complete:

\frac{7}{2}\times \frac{1}{3}=\frac{7}{6}  part of the work.

Therefore, Rajesh can complete  \frac{7}{6} or 1\frac{1}{6}  of the work in  3\frac{1}{2} hours.
