Rajmohan’s wife, Matangini’s transgression is a revolutionary transgression according to the author, Bankim. The story is based on the revolutionary ideas that erupted during the pre-independence period and after the 1857 Revolt.

Matangini’s wish to marry her brother-in-law since her husband was not caring for her, her desire to move for a better cause, although considered a social transgression; Bankim thought that was a great transformation during those days.

Matangini’s forcible marriage due to her father’s financial crisis made her suffer in her life. The desire to rise in life expressed by Matangini is a great revolutionary transgression compared to other women of that period who were still submissive.
