Raju finished his work in 5/6 hours. Vrinda finished her work in ¾ hours. Who worked longer? By what fraction was it longer?

Given :

Time to finish a work by Raju =  $\frac{5}{6}$ hours

Time to finish the work by Vrinda = $\frac{3}{4}$ hours

To Find :

which fraction of time is longer and by how much?

Solution :

To find the bigger fraction we will equate the denominators of the fractions first.

$\frac{5}{6}=\frac{5\times 4}{6\times 4}$

  = $\frac{20}{24}$

Similarly,

$\frac{3}{4}=\frac{3\times 6}{4\times 6}$

   = $\frac{18}{24}$

Now by comparing numerators of both the new fractions we find that $\frac{5}{6}$  is bigger.

Therefore, time taken by Raju is longer.

Difference in time to finish the work =  $\frac{5}{6}-\frac{3}{4}$

                                                            = $\frac{10-9}{12}$

                                                            = $\frac{1}{12}$

Raju takes $\frac{1}{12}$ hours more than Vrinda.
