Question :

Raju has 10 paise and 25 paise coins totaling rupees 8.25 If the number of coins are 60, find the number of 10 paise and 20 paise coins .

Let :

  • Number of 10 paise coin = x
  • Number of 25 paise coin = y

GIVEN :

  • Total number of coins Raju have = 60
  • Total amount Raju have = ₹8.25

To find :

Number of 10 paise & 25 paise coin

Solution :

➝ Total Number of coin = Number of 10 paise coin + Number of 25 paise coin

➝ 60 = x + y

➝ x = 60 - y .... equation 1

_______________________________________________

Total amount = (Number of 10 paise coin × 10) + (Number of 25 paise coin × 25)

➝ 8.25×100 paise = (10x + 25y ) paise

➝ 825 = 10x + 25y .. equation 2

_______________________________________________

On putting value of x from equation 1 into equation 2, we get;

➝ 825 = 10(60 - y) + 25y

➝ 825 = 600 - 10y + 25y

➝ 825 - 600 = 15y

➝ 15y = 225

➝ y = 225 ÷ 15

y = 15

_______________________________________________

Putting value of y in equation 1,

➝ x = 60 - 15

x = 45

_______________________________________________

ANSWER :

  • Number of 10 paise coin (x) = 45
  • Number of 25 paise coin (y) = 15
