Raju has to carry 120 large boxes from an office on the 10th floor to the ground floor in a lift. He can carry only 10 boxes at a time in the lift as the lift cannot take more weight than that. Which of these is the correct way to find the number of times he goes down in the lift to shift all the boxes?

Answer:

Given that,

An electric pole which is of 36 m long, is broke down at 16 m from base.

Let assume that AB be the electric pole such that AB = 16 m

Let at point C, its broken down and let the broken part CB touches the ground at D.

It is given that, AC = 16 m

Now, BC = AB - AC = 36 - 16 = 20 m

As BC = CD = 20 m

Now, we have to find the distance between the base of pole and the tip of broken part that touched ground.

Let assume that the required distance AD = x m

Now, In right-angle triangle ACD, We have

AC = 16 m

CD = 20 m

AD = x m

Now, using Pythagoras Theorem, we have

\begin{gathered}\rm \: {AD}^{2} + {AC}^{2} = {CD}^{2} \\ \end{gathered}

AD

2

+AC

2

=CD

2

On substituting the values, we get

\begin{gathered}\rm \: {x}^{2} + {16}^{2} = {20}^{2} \\ \end{gathered}

x

2

+16

2

=20
