Raju stored a 3/5 quintal of onion in an onion bowl. Ganapat then stored 1/4 quintal of onion in that bowl. Ramakanta sold 3/10 quintals of onion from the same bowl to a trader. If the capacity of onion sieve is 400 quintals, how many quintals of onion is left in onion bowl?

Given :

Total capacity of sieve : 400 quintals

Onions stored by Raju : 3/5

Onions stored by Ganapat : 1/4

Onions sold by Ramakanta : 3/10

To find :

The total number of onions left in the onion bowl.

Solution :

First, we should find the number of onions stored by Raju and Ganapat.

Number of onions stored by Raju :

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3}{5} \: of \: 400

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3}{5} \times 400

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3 \times 400}{5} = \dfrac{1200}{5}

\sf \dashrightarrow \cancel \dfrac{1200}{5} = 240

Number of onions stored by Ganapat :

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{1}{4} \: of \: 400

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{1}{4} \times 400

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{1 \times 400}{4} = \dfrac{400}{4}

\sf \dashrightarrow \cancel \dfrac{400}{4} = 100

Now, let's find out the total number of onions sold by Ramakanta from the bowl.

Number of onions sold by Ramakanta :

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3}{10} \: of \: (240 + 100)

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3}{10} \: of \: 340

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3}{10} \times 340

\sf \dashrightarrow \dfrac{3 \times 340}{10} = \dfrac{1020}{10}

\sf \dashrightarrow \cancel \dfrac{1020}{10} = 102

Now, we can find out the number of onions left over in the bowl.

Number of onions left over in bowl :

\sf \dashrightarrow 340 - 102

\sf \dashrightarrow 238

Hence, 238 quintals of onions were left in the bowl.

\overline{\underline{\boxed{\sf QUESTION \:  \darr }}}

  • Raju stored a 3/5 quintal of onion in an onion bowl.

  • Ganapat then stored 1/4 quintal of onion in that bowl.

  • Ramakanta sold 3/10 quintals of onion from the same bowl to a trader.

  • If the capacity of onion sieve is 400 quintals, how many quintals of onion is left in onion bowl?

\overline{\underline{\boxed{\sf HOW \:  TO  \: DO \:  \darr }}}

  • First we need to get the fraction in numbers by multiplying them with 400 except Ramatika's because she sold the onions and then we need to subtract the quantitiy sold by Ratika from the quantity stored by both Raju and Ganapat thereafter we will get the quantity left.

 \overline{\underline{\boxed{\sf SOLUTION \:  \darr }}}

According to the steps first we need to convert the fraction into their quantities

Given that

☢ Raju stored 3/5 quintal of onion

Therefore,

☢ Quantity of onion Raju stored = 3/5 of total quantity

= 3/5 of 400

= 3/5 × 400

= 240

Hence, Raju stored 240 quintals of onion in onion bowl

☢ Quantity of onion Ganapat stored = 1/4 of total quantity

= 1/4 of 400

= 1/4 × 400

= 100

Hence, Ganapat stored 100 quintals of onion in onion bowl

☢ Quantity of onion Ramakanta stored = 3/10 of total quantity

= 3/10 of (240 + 100)

= 3/10 × 340

= 102

Hence, Ramakanta sold 102 quintals of onion from onion bowl to a trader

Now,

We need to get the quantity left in the bowl

☢ Quantity stored by Raju and Ganapat - Quantity sold by Ramatika

☢ 340 - 102

☢ 238

So the quantity of onions in the onion bowl is 238 quintals
