Answer:

Speed of Raju is 5.7 km/hr and Speed of Ajay is 13.3 km/hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

let the speed of Raju = x km/hr

    the speed of Ajay = y km/hr

According to the question,

40/x - 40/y = 4 ..........................(1)

40/2x - 40/y = 1/2 ......................(2)

put 1/x = u and 1/y = v in (1) & (2)

we get

40u - 40 v = 4

20u - 40v = 1/2

40u - 40v = 4 ........................(3)

40u - 80v = 1 ..........................(4)

Subtract (4) from (3),

-40v  - ( -80v ) = 4 - 1

-40v + 80v = 3

40v = 3

v = 3/40

put this in (3), we get

40u - 40(3/40) = 4

40u - 3 = 4

40u = 7

u = 7/40

Now, 1/x = u ⇒ 1/x = 7/40 ⇒ x = 40/7 = 5.7

1/y = v ⇒ 1/y = 3/40 ⇒ y = 40/3 = 13.3

Therefore, Speed of Raju is 5.7 km/hr and Speed of Ajay is 13.3 km/hr.
