  • Raju is 140 m far from his initial position .

Given :-

  • Raju walks 80m towards south.
  • Then ,turns to his right and walks 80 m .
  • Then again turning to his left he walks for 60 m .
  • He then turns to his left and walks for 80 m .

To Find :-

  • How far is he from his initial position ?

Solution :- (Refer to image)

Let us assume that Raju starts from point A . So point A is the initial point .

Step 1) :-

  • From point he walks 80 m towards south and say he reach at point B .
  • AB = 80 m .

Step 2) :-

  • From point B he turns to his right in west direction and walks for 80m and reach at point C .
  • BC = 80 m .

Step 3) :-

  • From point C he turns to his left in south direction and walks for 60m and reach at point D .
  • CD = 60 m .

Step 4) :-

  • From point D he turns to his left in east direction and walks for 80m and reach at point E .
  • DE = 80 m .
  • E = Final point .

from image we can see that,

→ CD = BE { As CB is equal to DE }

→ BE = 60 m

therefore,

→ AE = AB + BE

→ AE = 80 + 60

→ AE = 140 m (Ans.)

Hence, Raju is 140 m far from his initial position .
