Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: I said,"I'm participating in the relay race." (Direct)

I said that I was participating in the relay race. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'today' changes to 'the next day', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day', 'will' changes to 'would' and many other words will have to be made.

Rakesh said,"I must watch TV three hours a day." (Direct)

Rakesh said that he must watch TV three hours a day. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
