In the 5 innings run is 36x5=180
In first 3 innings run is 40x3=120
In the fourth inning run is 0
Total run of 4 inning is 120
Then in the fifth inning
Run is 180-120=60

Given:

Rakesh scored 36 runs on an average in the 5 innings he played. For the first innings, his average is 40. He scored a duck in the fourth innings.

To Find:

The score made by Rakesh in the fourth innings such that the average is 40 will be?

Solution:

1. Let the score made by Rakesh in the five innings be s1, s2, s3, s4, and s5. where s1 represents the score in the first innings, s2 represents the score in the second innings, and so on.

2. The average score in the first 5 innings is 36,

=> (s1+s2+s3+s4+s5)/5 = 36,

=> s1+s2+s3+s4+s5 = 180. ( Consider as equation 1 ).

3. The average of the first three innings is 40,

=> (s1 + s2 + s3)/3 = 40,

=> s1 + s2 + s3 = 120,

4. Rakesh scored a duck in the fourth innings,

=> s4 = 0,

5. Consider equation 1,

=> s1 + s2 + s3 + s4 + s5 = 180,

=> (120) + s4 + s5 = 180, (s1+s2+s3=180)

=> 120+ 0 + s5 = 180, (s4=0)

=> s5 = 180 - 120,

=> s5 = 60.

6. Runs scored by Rakesh in the fifth innings is 60.

Therefore, Rakesh has scored 60 runs in the fifth inning.
