Let us denote the running speed of Ram be "A" and Shyam be "B"
In first scenario,
When Ram gives Shyam a start of 200 m and beats him by 30 seconds.
1800/B – 2000/A = 30
In second scenario,
When Ram gives Shyam a start of 3 min i.e. 180seconds and is beaten by 1000 metres
2000/B – 1000/A = 180
Solving the two equation, the values of A and B are:
A= 25/3 m/s
B = 20/3 m/s
Time taken = Distance /Speed
Time taken by Ram to run the ground= 2000*3*/25 = 240 seconds= 4 min
Time taken by Shyam to run the ground = 2000*3/20 = 300 seconds = 5 min
