Given: Ram can plough a field in 12 days

           Harish can plough the field in 16 days

To find: How much field will they plough together in

            a) a day

            b) three days

Solution: Given that,

Ram can plough a field in 12 days

Work done by him in one day = \frac{1}{12}

Harish can plough the field in 16 days

Work done by Harish in one day = \frac{1}{16}

a) Work done by them together in one day = (\frac{1}{12} + \frac{1}{16} )

                                                                       = \frac{4 \ + \ 3}{48} = \frac{7}{48}

b) Work done by them together in 3 days = 3*\frac{7}{48} = \frac{7}{16} or \frac{21}{48}

Hence, they can together plough \frac{7}{48} part of the field in one day and \frac{21}{48} part in 3 days.
