ram does a work taking 3 hours less than jeet. if both of them work together, they take 2 hours to complete the work..

Establish a quadratic equation in one variable taking x as the number of hours that ram requires to do the work.

Work done by Ram in x hours = 1
Work done by Ram in 1 hour = 1/x

Work done by Jeet in (x + 3) hours = 1
Work done by Jeet in 1 hour = 1/(x+3)

Work done by Ram in 2 hours
 = 2 \times \frac{1}{x } \\ = \frac{2}{x}

Work done by Jeet in 2 hours
 = 2 \times \frac{1}{x + 3} \\ = \frac{2}{x + 3}
Work Done by both Ram and Jeet together in 2 hours
 = > \frac{2}{x} + \frac{2}{x + 3 } = 1 \\ = > \frac{2(x + 3) + 2x}{x(x + 3)} = 1 \\ = > 2x + 6 + 2x = x(x + 3) \\ = > 4x + 6 = {x}^{2} + 3x \\ = > {x}^{2} + 3x = 4x + 6 \\ = > {x}^{2} + 3x - 4x - 6 = 0 \\ = > {x}^{2} - x - 6 = 0
Hence, the quadratic equation established is
 {x}^{2} - x - 6 = 0
