amount  donated to orphanage=1/10 x
amt. spent on food= 1/3x
amt. spent on rent=1/4x
amt. spent on telephone=1/20x
total spent=(1/10+1/3+1/4+1/20)x=(6+20+15+3)/60=(44/60)x

therefore, (60-44)/60x= 3000+5000
                 16/60x=8000
                  x= 8000*60/16
therefore, x=30,000

his salary is rs. 30,000....
