given that,

Ram is 4 times his son's age today.

let the present age of his son be x

therefore his present age = 4x

ATQ, after 5 years, Ram will be thrice his son's age.

➡ (4x + 5) = 3(x + 5)

➡ 4x + 5 = 3x + 15

➡ 4x - 3x = 15 - 5

➡ x = 10 yrs

hence,

current age of Ram's son = x

= 10 yrs

and current age of ram = 4x

= 4 × 10

= 40 yrs

-: VERIFICATION :-

LHS :-

= 4x + 5 = (4 × 10) + 5 = 45

RHS :-

= 3(x + 5) = 3(10 + 5) = 45

hence verified.

Let present age of Ram's son = x

Ram's present age = 4x

According to question;

(4x + 5) = 3(x + 5)

4x + 5 = 3x + 15

4x - 3x = 15 - 5

x = 10 years

So,

Present age of Ram's son = x = 10 years

Present age of Ram = 4x = 4 × 10 = 40 years
