Let the age of Om be x.
then Ram's age => 4 + x 

ten years before => x - 10
=> 4 + x - 10

sum=> 40

x - 10 + 4 + x - 10 = 40
2x - 20 + 4 = 40
2x - 16 = 40
2x = 40 + 16
2x = 56
x = 28

age of Om is 28 years 
age of Ram is 28 + 4 => 32 years.

Let age of Ram be x and that of Om be y,

Then according to question,

x = y + 4        .................(1)

Also,

(x-10) + (y-10) = 40

x + y = 60      ..................(2)

Substituting (1) in (2)

(y+4) + y = 60

2 y = 56

   y  = 28 yrs,

Then x = 28 + 4 = 32 yrs

Hence age of Ram = 32 yrs and Om = 28 yrs.
