After 5 years -

2 (x + 5) - 7 = y + 5 ----------(2)

put value of x from equation 1 in 2.

2(x+5)-7=y+5

2(y-5+5)-7=y+5

2(y) -7 = y+5

2y-7=y+5

2y= y+5+7

2y=y + 12

2y-y=12

y = 12

x = y-5

x = 12-5

x = 7
