ram's present age = 3 years
Ravi's present age = 10 years
therefore sum of their ages next year = (3+1)=(10+1) = 4+11= 15 years
ANS= (A) 15

kvnmurty: this is not the algebraic way of doing the exercise.

Ram's age = R
Ravi's age = V

R + 7 = V

R + 4 = 1/2 ( V + 4 )          =>        2 R + 8 = V + 4    => V = 2 R + 4

Hence  R + 7 = V = 2 R + 4
         R = 3 years      and hence  V = 10 years
     Next year ,  R + 1 + V + 1  =  15 years
