Given :-

Ram is two times older than Shyam.

10 years ago Ram was four times older than Shyam.

To Find :-

Present age of Ram.

Present age of Shyam.

Analysis :-

Consider the ages of Ram and Shyam as variables accordingly.

Make an equation to solve the variables and substitute them.

Solution :-

Let the present age of Ram and Shyam be 2x and x respectively.

Present ages,

Shyam's age = x

Ram's age = 2x

Ages 10 years ago,

Age of shyam 10 years ago = x - 10

Age of ram 10 years ago = 2x - 10

According to the question,

\sf 2x - 10 = 4 (x - 10)

\sf 2x - 10 = 4x - 40

\sf 2x - 4x = -40 + 10

\sf -2x = -30

Finding the value of x,

\sf x=\dfrac{-30}{-2}

\sf x=15

Therefore, the value of x is 15

Shyam's age = x = 15 years

Ram's age = 2x = 2 × 15

= 30 years

Therefore, the present ages of Ram and Shyam are 15 and 30 years respectively.
