let's consider there are x students and he bought y amount of chocolates

then according to the question

15x+ 2 =y--------(1st)

and

16x-2= y---------(2nd)

now

15x+2=y

then

16x-2=15x+2 [we put the value of y from 1st equation]

=16x-15x= 2+2

=x= 4

then we put the value of x in any equation

15(4)+2=y

60+2= y

62=y

or

16(4)-2=y

64-2= y

62=y
