Ram starts walking towards east from a point 's' and after walking 15 m turns to his left and walks 10 m, again he walks 10 m turning to his left and finally walks 22 m turning to his left and reaches a point 'q'. How far and in which direction is he from the point 's'?

Ram is at a distance of 13m in the south-east direction from s.

This can be solved as follows:

1. As he proceeds from s towards east and then turns left, he is moving towards the north direction.

2. Now, when he turns towards his left, he is moving towards the west direction.

3. Again when he turns left, he is moving towards the south direction and reaches q.

[The distances are clearly shown in the attached diagram]

We get a triangle and use the Pythagoras theorem to find out the distance between initial and final point.

So Distance^2 = 12^2 + 5^2 = 144+ 25= 169

Or, Distance = 13m.
