Concept:

The speed of an object is the magnitude of the change of its position over time or speed can be defined as the rate of change of position of an object in any direction.

Given:

The speed while going to school is 20km/h.

The speed when he travels back is 30km/h.

Find:

The average speed by which Ram travels his whole journey.

Solution:

Let x be the distance traveled by Ram while going to school.

The speed while going to school, V_1=20km/h.

Now, speed is the distance by time. So, V_1=\frac{x}{20} .

The speed while traveling back, V_2=30km/h.

The total distance traveled by Ram is 2x.

Now,

Average speed is the total distance traveled in a particular time interval.

So, V_{avg}=\frac{2x}{\frac{x}{30} +\frac{x}{20} }

V_{avg}=\frac{120x}{5x}

V_{avg}=24km/h

The average speed of Ram during his whole journey is 24km/h.
