ram travels on a straight road from pointA toB.the distance between AandB is 4km now from B he turns back and travels a distance of 2km to reach point C.find total distance travelled.

Distance from A to B=4km
Distance he travelled from B to reach C=2km

We know that he travelled 4km at first and 2km after that.......So the total distance covered by him is.........

=(4+2)km
=6km

The total distance covered by him is 6km.

Given that distance between A and B was 4km and that between B and C was 2km

Note that because we ned to find the total DISTANCE, we have to add the magnitude.

Total distance covered = AB + BC = 4 + 2 = 6km

If the question demanded Displacement, then you should subtract 

Displacement= 4km - 2km = 2km 

Your Answer = 6km
