Five persons, including a policeman, conspired to claim compensation of Rs 35 lakh from an insurance company based on a fake accident in 1993. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took 10 years to investigate and file the case. The trial court however discharged the accused in 2009. The High Court has now set aside the discharge and ordered the trial court to frame charges against the accused. 25 years after the incident, the trial in the case can begin now. In the meantime, the main accused is dead.

The trial court had discharged BS Shantakumar, TR Ashwathnarayan, his son TA Ram Prasad and retired police sub inspector SS Nagappa in the case. The CBI filed an appeal in the HC against this in 2010. The HC order in this petition came on September 18, 2017.
