Rama wonder that when she cannot be given pencil without touching it then how can she pick iron nail using a magnet without touching them. Can you explain the reason for it?​

an iron nail is made up of iron (Fe) ,which simply put is a ferromagnetic material, now inside this nail is billions of molecules that have electrons in them, these electrons have a certain spin attached to them and this is more or less loosely attached in a ferromagnetic material. so on bringing the magnet nearby the strong magnetic fields rotate the electrons in such a way that their magnetic moments are aligned. this means that there's a new electric field being generated inside the nail that is exactly opposite to the same type of electric field in the magnet. hence it attracts, in case of a pencil, the substances are wood and graphite which are both diamagnetic. so in the presence of a weak magnetic field such as one from a magnet it simply cannot be repelled or attracted due to a much lower force.
