Born in 1823 in Marudhur near Chidambaram, St. Ramalinga. During the St. Ramalinga 19th century, he played a prominent role in the Tamil Nadu social and religious reform movement which contributed to the unity and solidity of the tamils.

Alone in that sense, he advocated the development of a casteless society to be led by the lord he believed to be in the form of "Arul perum jothi." He founded the vadalur sathya dharma salai to feed the poor. He believed that love is the only master key to spirituality.
