let cp of first watch = x
profit = 20% of cp
= 20x/100
= x/5
sp = 1200
sp = cp + profit
1200 = x+x/5
1200 = 6x/5
1200 ×5/6 = x
x = 200× 5
x = 1000
so cp of first watch is 1000
sp of second watch = 1200
let cp= x
loss = 20% of x
= 20x/100
= x /5
sp = 1200
sp = cp- loss
1200 = x- x/5
1200= 4x/5
1200×5/4 = x
x= 300×5
x = 1500
so cp of second watch is 1500
sp of both watches= 2400
cp of watches = 1000+ 1500
= 2500
cp is greater than sp so there is loss
loss = cp- sp
= 2500 - 2400= 100
loss% = 100/2500×100
= 4%
