Question :-

Ramesh bought a shirt for 336, including 12% ST and a tie for 110 including 10% ST. Find the list price (without sales tax) of the shirt and the tie together.

Given :-

Ramesh bought a shirt for ₹336,including 12% ST .

Solution :-

Let us assume that, without sales tax the list price is Rs.x .

Then,

→ x + 12% ST = Rs.336

→ x + 12% of x = 336

→ x + (12 * x /100) = 336

→ x + 0.12x = 336

→ 1.12x = 336

→ x = (336 * 100) / 112

x = Rs.300

Similarly, it is given that, Ramesh bought a tie for ₹110,including 10% ST .

Let us assume that, without sales tax the list price of tie is Rs.y .

Then,

→ y + 10% ST = Rs.110

→ x + 10% of y = 110

→ x + (10 * y /100) = 110

→ x + 0.1y = 110

→ 1.1y = 110

→ y = (110 * 10) / 11

y = Rs.100

Final answer :-

Hence,

The List Price (without sales tax) of the shirt and the tie together is = 300 + 100 = Rs.400
