Let the total number of pages in the book be x

1/6 of book
 = \frac{1}{6} x
1/3 of book
 = \frac{1}{3} x
Total reading
 \frac{1}{6} x + \frac{1}{3} x \\ \frac{x}{6} + \frac{x}{3} \\ \frac{x}{6} + \frac{2x}{6} \\ \frac{x + 2x}{6} \\ \frac{3x}{6} \\ \frac{1}{2} x
Total pages = total reading + left reading
x = \frac{1}{2}x + 18 \\ 18 = x - \frac{1}{2} x \\ 18 = \frac{2}{2} x - \frac{1}{2} x \\ 18 = \frac{1}{2} x \\ x = 18 \times 2 \\ x = 36
Ans: The total numbet of pages in the book is 36.
