Ramesh goes to college from his home at 20 km/h and reaches the college 4 minutes late. Next time,
he goes at 25 km/h and reaches the college 2 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. What is the
distance between his college and home?
Answers
Answer:
distance =speed×time
d = 20(x+4)
d= 25(x-2)
20(x+4)= 25(x-2)
20x+80 = 25x-50
30 = 5x
x = 6

Given :- Ramesh goes to college from his home at 20 km/h and reaches the college 4 minutes late. Next time,
he goes at 25 km/h and reaches the college 2 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. What is the distance between his college and home ?
Solution :-
Let us assume that, the distance of his college is x km.
Case 1) :-
→ Time taken to go to college at 20 km/h = D/S = (x/20) hours.
and he reaches 4 minutes late.
so, we can say that,
→ Actual time to reach college = {(x/20) - (4/60)} hours.
Case 2) :-
→ Time taken to go to college at 25 km/h = D/S = (x/25) hours.
and he reaches 2 minutes earlier.
so, we can say that,
→ Actual time to reach college = {(x/25) + (2/60)} hours.
therefore,
→ {(x/20) - (4/60)} = {(x/25) + (2/60)}
→ (x/20) - (x/25) = (2/60) + (4/60)
→ (5x - 4x)/100 = (6/60)
→ (x/100) = (1/10)
→ x = (100/10)
→ x = 10 km/h. (D) (Ans.)
Hence, the distance of his college is 10 km/h .
