Step-by-step explanation:

Ramesh:

Total pencils = 20

Used up pencils = 10

Fraction of pencils used =10/20= 1/2

Sheelu:

Total pencils = 50

Used up pencils = 25

Fraction of pencils used =25/50= 1/2

Jamaal:

Total pencils = 80

Used up pencils = 40

Fraction of pencils used =40/80 = 1/2

Hence, all three of them used up 1/2 the number of pencils they had.
