Ramesh places a mirror on level ground to determine the height of a pole (with traffic

light fired on it). He stands at a certain distance so that he can see the top of the pole

reflected from the mirror. Ramesh’s eye level is 1.5 m above the ground. The distance of

Ramesh and the pole from the mirror are 1.8 m and 6 m respectively.What is the height of the pole?

ANSWER:

i) d) AA

ii) c) 5m

iii) This question, every body does mistake. You have to take the angle as tan(90-θ)

Therefore, cot i = 5/6

or, tan i = 6/5

Ans: b)

Answer:

(I) AA

(II) 5 cm

(III) Tan i = 5/6

Step-by-step explanation:

(I) AMB = CMD

Also, ABM = CDM = 90

So, by AA similarity criterion,

AMB ~ CDM

(II)As TABM + TCDM we obtain,

CD/AB=DM/BM

AB/1.8 = 1.5/5

AB =6/ 1 .8 x 1.5

AB=5 m

(III)MCD = i

tan MCD= MD/CD

tan i = 1.5/1.8

tan i = 5/6
