\huge\bold{\mathtt{Question⇒}}

Ramesh sells an article for ₹440 at a gain of 10\%. What did it cost him ?

\huge\bold{\mathtt{Given⇒}}

  • SP = ₹ 440

  • Gain = 10\%

\huge\bold{\mathtt{To\:find⇒}}

The CP.

\huge\bold{\mathtt{Solution⇒}}

Let the CP be ₹ x.

We know that:

  • \large\boxed{Gain=Gain\%\:of\:CP}

  • \large\boxed{SP = CP+Gain}

So, gain

= 10\%\:of\:x

= {\frac{10}{100}}×x

= {\frac{10x}{100}}

According to condition,

x+{\frac{10x}{100}} = 440

➳\:{\frac{100x+10x}{100}} = 440

➳\:{\frac{110x}{100}} = 440

➳\:110x = 440×100

➳\:110x = 44000

➳\:x = {\frac{44000}{110}}

➳\:x = {\frac{4400\cancel0}{11\cancel0}}

➳\:x = {\frac{4400}{11}}

➳\:x = 400

\huge\bold{\mathtt{Hence⇒}}

x = 400

CP =₹x = ₹400

\huge\bold{\mathtt{Therefore⇒}}

It cost him ₹400.
